Alexander’s grandparents were kind enough to let Louise use their beautiful Christina Lake home to get ready for her wedding in. They even left her a beautiful welcom note:

I often post an environmental photo of the bridal party. Here’s something different… group hug!

The setting was beautiful and I convinced Louise to go perch on the ledge of a cliff.

This was one of my favourites of this series because of Alexander’s expression: unposed happiness.

I loved the light we had at the end of the bride and groom portraits. I particularly like the shadow of Louise’s eyelashes. Hair and Make-up by Allison Danish, Polished & Pampered.

Taghum is a beautiful spot for a summer wedding. Kyle and Cayley chose to get married on the lawn at the Beach Taghum Bed & Breakfast.  I saw this willow tree at the rehearsal and I really wanted a photo of Kyle and Cayley sitting beneath it. The lighting was patchy but I used some flash to clean it up and it also shows off the material of Cayley’s beautiful dress.

I can’t remember exactly what the groomsmen were talking about here, but I think it was slightly inappropriate This photo is taken in the lounge at the New Grand Hotel. Fun place to photograph the groom before the wedding!

I want to end with two images from the dances. Sometimes it seems like looking through a wedding photographer’s portfolio is all about portraits of the bride and groom (OK, I guess they are a tiny bit important), but I really love photographing the bride and groom with their parent’s on the wedding day as well.

The featured image shows some iconic Grand Forks scenery—flat valley and Grand Forks hills in the background. I didn’t think of how flat Grand Forks is growing up there, but after living in Nelson for a few years it definitely feels that way!

I made this portrait of Erika before the ceremony. She was very excited!

Erika really looked stunning—Allison Danish (Polished & Pampered) did both Erika’s bridal hair and make-up. I love the airbrush make-up for weddings, it really stays fresh. Aren’t they a good looking couple?

Erika wanted something different for her wedding party photos so she arranged for us to be let into James Donaldson park (site of the GFI) so we could take some baseball themed photos. It was fun!

My last image to share in this post is from a short nighttime portrait session that I set up during the reception. I was planning it to be a silhouette, but when I saw the way they were holding hands and smiling at each other I decided to show these details.

Proctor is a pretty neat little community. Charlotte found this barn down the road from their ceremony. It was a fun place to work with!

Not only did we have the barn, but we also had a vintage get-away car to work with!

One of my favourite photos from the day is this image of Charlotte and Mike. It’s always hard to choose a favourite from a wedding though! My favourites are often the close portraits where we really get to see emotion.

The featured image shows how they really decorated their tents nicely; I loved the line of photos decorating the space above the head table.

All of the wedding details really matched their setting. The bride, her father and the bridesmaids were driven into the ceremony by tractor (thank-you to my assistant, Bill for these images).

After the ceremony we went to this cute little cabin in the woods for some formal portraits. I used a B&W toning on this image to really bring out the texture in the wood. I also moved the lamp and stick into the picture. I think they add to the mood.

Sarah and Shaun decided to have their ceremony at the Mir Center in Castlegar, BC. It was a great location for a wedding; lots of beautiful trees and unique features and a round gazebo for the ceremony (I will post more images later when I have the wedding edited).

This portrait of all the children from the bridal party is taken on the front steps of the center. So we had a bit of trouble tyring to get everyone to behave but I did manage to get nice portraits of all the kids. I chose this image to blog because I love how the little guy on the end is misbehaving. Just a little cheeky!

Sarah chose a different styled dress and I was inspired to try some different processing techniques for some of these images. The one below is a grainy B&W with an old-fashioned border. We took this in the symbolic curved bench at the Mir Center.

 Again, trying something a bit different with my composition as inspired by Sarah’s dress choice. I like Shawn’s ring and jacket showing in the corners and how Sarah’s feet are turned.

 This last preview is from our second photo location at the Brilliant Suspension bridge. We caught some nice evening light and blue skies.
